Most of us don't realise that the application of mascara and eyeliner is as important as the products themselves. If you can not apply them correctly, they can have the opposite effect to what you really are trying to achieve.

Mascara.

Deciding on a good mascara is vital, should you have short eyelashes, decide on a lengthening and thickening mascara. These also create the illusion that you've more eyelashes, so your eyes will appear more defined.

While many people often keep with black, mascaras can be bought in many colours, navy and electric blue, brown, green, clear and even sparkly.

The "rules" are many more flexible with mascara than they are with things like eyeshadow, you can wear virtually colour you wish, regardless of your eye colour.

You will get fun experimenting with the results that different colours create.

Application:

Open up the mascara tube and hold the wand out of the tube for approximately one minute, this may dry a number of the excess mascara out, this helps avoid the dreaded clumps. It is a tip used by make up artists.

Hold the wand at the base of your lashes, gently wiggle the wand laterally whilst moving it up the lashes. This will ensure that all the lashes are coated and in addition it helps to avoid clumps.

Keep going right to the tip of your lashes and now let the mascara dry. Once the primary layer is dry, repeat the procedure.

You may also use the wand to fan the outer eyelashes outwards; this will create the illusion of more eyelashes and a bigger eye.

Some eyelashes are longer than others, follow this as a guideline, and don't try to make your whole lashes the same length, this will look false and unnatural.

Eyeliner.

Just like mascara, despite the selection of colours available, most of the people tend to stick with black. Avoid being afraid to experience new colours! You will discover various ways to apply eyeliner and also this is based what look you will need to for.

Bigger eyes:

For bigger eyes choose a dark colour like brown, green, navy or black, before you decide to apply mascara, sketch a line on your lash line on the eyelid. Keep it nice and near to the eyelashes, this require several practice.

Smudge it lightly with a cotton bud so that the line feels more natural and less harsh.

Now draw a line along your bottom lashes, it need to begin just before the outer corner of the eye. Looking in the mirror, follow the line of the lashes, again ensure that is stays nice and close. The line should stop in below the centre of your pupil when you are looking directly into the mirror. Smudge and blend with a cotton bud.

Definition.

When you've got large eyes, you will get away with lining the inside your eyes. It's not advisable to do everyday, but for special occasions it's fine.

With a a little bit sharpened eyeliner, clean the pencil with a wet wipe; this would remove any traces of sharpenings and dirt.

Draw a line within your lashes; one coat of eyeliner should be plenty. Pull the eyelid a little to prevent drawing on your eyeball.Hold the pencil vertically and draw a line inside your top lashes. Softly shut your eyes for two seconds, this will aid to spread the colour more equally. This can be finished with a white or flesh coloured eye pencil to lessen the appearance of any redness.
